Google sets the tone for innovation. I think they do anyway. Some on the agency side feel they are the evil empire working toward a hidden agenda of taking over the agency world. Others are more comfortable partnering with them to help work through technical kinks on their product launches.
Yahoo and MSN both work very hard to try and keep pace, however they always seem one step behind. While the launch of Bing has helped a bit, Google continues to impress with its exhausting pace of new product launches and technology updates.
AgencyLand, which is in beta right now has been designed to be an online education portal for media professionals. There are case studies, video tutorials, different webinars and an extensive research library. When I started in this business, I had the privilege of working for a great company – Jordan, McGrath, Case & Taylor. They took the time to teach, every day. Every up and coming agency executive had the training that would provide them with the fundamentals of marketing. These fundamentals help to build a successful career.
Today – the focus is on maximizing profitability. Training always gets cast aside and as a result the media professional is forced to learn on their own. That leads to an uneven playing field in terms of knowledge from one media professional to another. Now with AgencyLand, executives have the opportunity to track the progress of their team, how they are learning, how are they growing and what areas need more attention.
After full launch, it will be interesting to see how participation spikes and thereafter sustains as the months roll on. As for Google taking over the agency world, we will have to wait and see just when the evil empire decides to make a move for complete agency domination.
More to come …
