With only a few hours remaining, we are getting in our last licks and visiting our fav haunts of our trip. This place has the best burgers going. What goes perfect with that burger – a Longboard beer – the local brew.

It has been a good vaca, but I’m ready to return. Kids are ready as well. There was plenty of “reflection” on this trip regarding T360 and I feel ready to jump back in head first. Major decisions await and the next evolution of the company is upon us. Strategy, Media and Creative are busy and new opportunities are showing up every day. The final push to ensure 2009 goes down in the books as a successful year happens now. But first a stop on “The Big Island” to make our connection.

Expect big things …

Up, Up and Away!

Flying high today taking a heli tour of the islands.  I’m a little unsure about this adventure as this bird looks a little old.  One of the other passengers greeted the pilot with the question “how many times have you crashed”?  What a moron!  But, I was happy to hear the answer – “Never”.

Our pilot was cool and collected.  Did you ever experience turbulence in a helicopter?  I did and all I can say is that it’s much different than feeling turbulence in an airplane.  It was all worth it though as the views were spectacular.  Check the image below:

Twice Dead – Apple Tablet Killed Again

in Point of View, Technology 1 Comment

Appletablet

Steve Jobs killed the Tablet project for a second time for a short battery life and for a few memory issues. Since returning from medical leave, Jobs has been very engaged in the marketing efforts for Apple. No shock as the country struggles through tough economic times and consumer confidence struggles to climb. Additional heavy competitive pressures from Microsoft dropping major ad spending in market has Jobs squarely focused on his number one goal:  Keeping Apple top of mind as we head into the final quarter of the year.  Remember, the holiday shopping season is just a few months away. Can you believe it?

Final word on the the Apple Tablet – I think it has nine lives.  We will soon see it again.

Yelp Brings First US Augmented Reality App to iPhone Store

in Digital Marketing No Comments

yelpar2

Social review service Yelp has snuck the first Augmented Reality (AR) iPhone app specifically for the US into the iTunes App Store. The undisclosed new feature allows iPhone 3Gs owners to shake their phones three times to turn on a view called “the Monocle.” This view uses the phone’s GPS and compass to display markers for restaurants, bars and other nearby businesses on top of the camera’s view.

Remember you need a 3Gs phone to pull this off.  The reason is AR needs a digital compass that aligns with a GPS to know where you are.

Everyday Office Camouflage Tactics

in Advertising No Comments

You don’t need to be fluent in Russian to find this commercial for RESO posted on Gozmodo hilarious. The English translation identifies a man trying to find a reliable insurance company but instead he discovers a “quick dissolving office” after informing these VIGVAM employees that he’s been on the search for insurance in accordance with OSAGO (tbe mandatory Russian auto insurance law). The dude in the copier most definitely makes the commercial.

Simon’s Viral Cat

in Animals, Viral No Comments

That’s right, this cute kitty went viral and has 1o million views. Simon’s cat, the star of 4 black and white simplistic cartoon videos (all under 3 minutes), is an accurate depiction of the typical cat personality. Maybe the reason these vids have so many views is because all the cat people out there just keep watching it over and over again…

Too Drunk to Drive? There’s an App for That

in Point of View, Technology No Comments

Grolsch Brewers launched this iPhone application at the 2009 North Sea Jazz Festival in the Netherlands. This app allowed attendees to really see how intoxicated they were by testing their ability to walk in a straight line and measuring their responsibility percentage.

This application is not available in the United States, but it’s not a big loss. Anyone needing an iPhone app to determine how inebriated they are is obviously unfit for operating any vehicle, not to mention the fact that drunkards drive regardless of how drunk they are. Anyway, here’s to hoping that the application really is that persuasive for the Dutch.

Lemonade: Coming Soon!

in Advertising, Agency Life, Trailer No Comments

“Lemonade” is basically a documentary about how incredible life became for this group of people since they’ve been ‘let go’ from their ad agency. The trailer begins on a very bleak note, then about half way thorough, up starts the inspirational music as each individual featured in the film lists the pros of being fired. One man cites his new found ability to see his children and eat three meals a day. Others become artists, yoga instructors, coffee makers, documentary filmmakers and one even changes his gender…?

Regardless, my anticipation for the release of this film is immeasurable. Hopefully this blog won’t cause company-wide controversy or require any seminars.

Video From Lava Field

So here it is.  Totally lame and I’m sure these home vids of me and my kids are actually deterring repeat visitation of this blog. My thinking – If we can post a vid of a magic cucumber:  Sara’s Secret, posts showing my kids kinda even out the insanity. ANYWAY here it is … proceed with caution!!

Cutest Dog Competition

in Viral No Comments

Shio and Buddy-n

I have no idea where this contest came from, but with a $1MM payout I may just have to submit a dog, any dog.  Visit http://www.cutestdogcompetition.com to submit or vote on the cutest dog and help some lucky knine become the spokes person for Grrr-nola dog food.  The last point around being the spokes dog maybe a lie, but I can-not sit here and write about a contest that is giving away an M without some form of advertising objective.  The grand prize is paid out in 30 annual installments from the All American Pet Co., Inc. – who ever that is.

If this was my contest, I would eliminate all puppy photos.  Dogs would need to be at least 2 years of age.  Why…because puppy photos are misleading, if this is a contest to find the new face of Grr-nola, why throw down a million bucks on unproven cuteness.

Lastly, if you are one of those people that is anti-pets then this blog should make you feel right at home.  FU Penguin – a blog where the writer tells cute animals what’s what.

Oh, and make sure to vote for my friend’s dog so I can get a little of that cash as well.
