Attn U.S. Gov: Listen to Billboards
Advertising, Point of View
What does advertising news coverage mean for BBC WORLD? It means asking the people of New York City their opinions on current issues that infiltrate the media with interactive billboards. By texting a one word thought to a specified number, a tally keeps track of how many individuals text in, showing a screen revealing public opinion on various controversial issues including U.S. military personnel in the Middle East, the bird flu, illegal immigration and communist China.
Firstly, this immensely creative billboard should be applauded (even though it’s over a year and a half old). Secondly, shouldn’t these results be taken into some kind of consideration? It’s not as legitimate as registering to vote for leaders in our country, but maybe in the future this kind of measurement of public opinion will somehow gain recognition.
